Trip Description

Manaslu Expedition

Manaslu is a Himalayan Peak also known as “Kutang”  and is the eighth highest peak in the world with an altitude of 8,163 meters.  It lies at the edge of a very secluded Himalayan Valleys in central-western Nepal.   The Manaslu Expedition is similar to our Cho Oyu Expedition when it comes to climbers looking for their first 8,000 meter peak.   Some experienced mountaineers say the Manaslu Expedition  is a better experience than Cho Oyu for training  and preparation for Mt. Everest.

Manaslu has long ridges and valley glaciers, which provide feasible approaches from all directions culminating in a peak that towers steeply above its surrounding landscape.  At least six different routes to Manaslu Expedition exist today, with the south face being the most challenging.   The normal Manaslu Expedition climbing route follows a relatively straightforward line to the summit, which has few technical sections.  Usually four camps are set up during the Manaslu Expedition, after Advanced Base Camp.   From Manaslu Base Camp, climbers has to handle a few stretches of steep climbing and crevasses from Camp I to Camp II.  Snow climbing is required from Camp II to Camp III and the possibility of facing avalanches exist from Camp III to Camp IV.
